Daily Photo: One Hundred Percent Chance
one_hundred_percent_chance.jpg

I was curious when I read the weather forecast for today: "61F, 100% chance of precipitation." Today, it seems that meant it would rain 100% of the day. Things were soaked and dark when we rose, and here in the dark 12 hours later, the rain has redoubled its efforts.

We're watching the newly planted grass warily, hoping it doesn't wash away, but the rain has been mostly steady and lacking in any torrential qualities. Laura cooked on the grill, as was her plan, rain be damned, and tended the tasty chicken under my grandmother's umbrella, the one emblazoned with giraffes. That's the picture I should have gotten.

In the house all day, of course, doing some work-for-work (new team, new boss, increased responsibilities, better buckle down, don't be a slacker, they're gonna know what a fake you really are, angst, sigh...), some laundry, some sorting, some replacing of lightbulbs. All in all, pretty relaxing.

Oh, and I'm trying to see exactly how many pictures one can fit onto a 4GB SD card. We're up to 1,062 (@10MP) so far, and the camera says she can take 4 more. Wow, what an exciting life. Ahem, right.

Finished The Dreaming Void. Meh.

Finally
And it's still raining. w00t.

I've a mild crush on rainy autumn days that ooze into night, still fog-bound and dripping. I'm sure this comes of some innate laziness that I harbor inside me, ever waiting to be released.

Although it was likely to rain in Texas, that rain came in great crashing downpours and their attendant swelter. Here, the mountain puts us in the clouds and we're wrapped in a blanket of damp sounds. Rain hissing on the leaves and dripping from the house are a nice backdrop to the evening's activities.

Plus, we need the rain, sayeth The Weather Man.

I Suffer For My Art

I got wet getting this shot.

That's not starving in an unheated garret, warmed only by the rage from a sheaf of rejection letters and continued interpersonal failures, but it's close.

Daily Photo: Making Up For May
rainy_night.jpg

We're having a rainy night here. It held off long enough for me to do some stuff for the impending trip then let loose as I pulled the car into the garage.

May was a super-dry month but June is making up for it. We have this rain tonight, a nasty storm yesterday (in which I ran 3.5 miles, yes, with my feet), and some rain last week.

Soggy
The second pot of coffee is about to boil as we move through a soggy, rainy day here on the Mountain. We're catching the edge of a nor'easter, and it's cold and wet here. North of here, they're going to get flooding and some snow.

Our minds are there, but with sunshine added, as we make plans and hunt for a house for summer vacation, likely in Maine again. I have no idea how you found a house or planned a vacation before the Internet arrived. I've looked through at least 80 listings today and narrowed it down to about 20 that have the right combination of quiet, room, and price, all in about 2 hours.

Coffee's on.
