    PWCitizen Folds
I'll be shutting this blog down soon, I'm writing at a couple of other places [ northerncrown, remix of 86, and internet B-52] and my interests have shifted some. I'm disgusted lately with politics, epecially the ridiculous Senate race in Virginia, as well as the ludicrous, low-stakes battle for the Chairmanship of the PWC Board of County Supervisors. That one is ***so*** important that the Washington Post had to endorse a candidate! Gah.

I'll be rolling the entries back into my personal blog under a "pwcitizen.org" category, so the entries aren't lost.

    Successful Opening
Our new winery, has an email newsletter. The recent one notes the successful opening at Labor Day:

The doors to the Winery at La Grange in Haymarket, Virginia officially opened to the public on Labor Day weekend. Over the three days, approximately 2000 visitors tasted, toured, commented, and showed their excitement of having a new winery in the area. Comments such as "beautiful," "comfortable," "well-done," "magnificent," and many said they would be back regularly because it is so close. Many investors were on hand to witness the crowds and many assisted visitors giving tours, helping to make sales, and pour tastes of wines. Wine enthusiasts, friends, descendants, neighbors from all over the area came to see the results of the last 8 months of development transitioning from a neglected piece of property to a beautiful estate winery near Bull Run Mountain.

    Virginia Blog Carnival

Claire Guthrie Gastanaga presents On Andrew Young

Leslie Carbone at LeslieCarbone presents "The Worst Thing Bill Clinton Has Done"? I'd say his worst act was to give every third-rate comedian material, along the lines of, "depends on what the definition of 'is' is..."

HRConservative presents George Allen "Scandal" Desperation posted at Virginia Conservative Analysis.

Talking up one of my favorite places here in NoVa, K T Cat at The Scratching Post presents Great Falls National Park

Austen presents Deadwood: I Swear It Is Good posted at Red Inked. Being a huge Sopranos fan, I can take the abuse, but, really, did they drop the f-bomb *that* much in the Old West?

Our dedicated VBC organizer, Kat presents GREAT concert Friday night! posted at CatHouse Chat.

    Thanks to all who contributed!

    Antioch

Feeling a little bit like I was playing hookie, I stopped off at Antioch Church on Waterfall Road on Saturday morning. It was a gorgeous day, dry and clear, cooler, by far, than the past week.

We've driven by the church and its little graveyard a thousand times, but I have never stopped. I've got a few interesting shots from this visit in the can for posting.

The headstones are late 19th-century up to more modern times. Gossums and Smiths are heavily represented.

You can read the historical marker.

PWC Road Projects For November's Ballot
The Gainesville Times [timescommunity.com] has the details on the nine projects, totalling $307M.

In addition, the bond will include $20 million for "safety improvements." That money will be used for smaller scale problems, primarily for installing traffic lights and turn lanes at dangerous intersections. The intersection at Catharpin and Route 55 and the one at U.S. 29 and Pageland Lane were mentioned as prime candidates for that type of expenditure.

I am glad to see that. It took a person being killed at the intersection of Rt 55 and Catharpin Road in early 2005 to shame the county into paying for a traffic light there. Now, I guess the intersection will get turn lanes. It's good to see the county officials learned a lesson.
