You'll Love Lufkin: Especially The Vinson Motel

Continuing up First Street, as we approach Denman Avenue, we can see the Clean, Comfortable, Air Cooled, and Fireproof (thank the Lord) Vinson Motel.

In 1953, the manager tried to make it annoyance-proof:

MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE CITY
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF LUFKIN, TEXAS, HELD
MAY 12, 1953, AT 7:30 P. M.

Manager of Vinson Motel, at Jodie & E. Denman, appeared before the Council to request that the caution lights of the present signal, First & Denman, be changed to prevent traffic from having to stop in front of the Motel. His idea was to use an amber flashing signal on Denman Aye, which would require traffic to proceed at a slow rate of speed in place of stopping. His contention was that this stopping of traffic at night is an anoyance.

Interesting things at this intersection: the bank where I got my first car loan
